Description

1853-D Gold Dollar, AU58
Strong Orange-Gold Example

1853-D G$1 AU58 PCGS. Variety 5-G. About 150 to 200 examples of the 1853-D gold dollar are thought to survive from a mintage of 6,583 coins, according to Doug Winter. While a surprising number of them exist across the various AU grades, this near-Mint example is decidedly at the higher end of the availability spectrum. Orange-gold surfaces exhibit strong detail around the obverse periphery and throughout the reverse. Liberty's curls are just a bit soft. PCGS reports 25 higher grading events (8/22).(Registry values: N1793)
