Description

1853-D Gold Dollar, MS61
Attractive Dahlonega Gold Dollar

1853-D G$1 MS61 PCGS. Winter 5-G. The 6,583-piece mintage yields between 15 to 20 Mint State examples according to Doug Winter, although his standards are perhaps more stringent than the grading services. PCGS and NGC combined have certified nearly 50 Mint State examples between them and CACG adds three more for a total of 53 Mint State grading events as of (10/25), albeit with several duplications and resubmissions. This is a boldly struck green-gold MS61 example with minimally abraded fields and only minor weakness at 53 in the date. Liberty displays some lengthy "chin whiskers" -- a gathering of die lines below the jaw and along the upper neck as usually seen on high-grade pieces. The eye appeal is strong for the grade. PCGS Population: 8 in 61, 15 finer (9/25).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25BW, PCGS# 7523, Greysheet# 8067)
