Radiant 1853-D Gold Dollar MS62
1853-D G$1 MS62 PCGS. Variety 5-G, the only known variety for this date. An impressive example of this scarce Dahlonega Mint issue, this piece has partially reflective surfaces with rich green and orange-gold surfaces. The devices are a trifle weak in the centers, as usual for this issue. The mintage of this date was a mere 6,583 coins, and only a fraction of those have survived. The 1853-D is particularly rare in Mint State. PCGS has certified 83 examples of this issue in all grades, but just 11 of those have been certified as MS60 or finer. Population: 2 in 62, 6 finer (2/07).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25BW, PCGS# 7523, GSID# 8067)
