Description

1853 Gold Dollar, Frosty Gem
Excellent Type Candidate

1853 G$1 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The large-mintage 1853 gold dollar saw a production exceeding 4 million pieces, but most of those coins either circulated or, if Mint State, are held back by strike/planchet problems or excessive coin-to-coin contact. This smooth, frosty Gem shows uniform orange-gold coloration with evidence of metal flow at the rims. Strong eye appeal dominates both sides, with no mentionable contact marks. An excellent type-coin candidate. PCGS has seen 38 submissions numerically finer (9/12).(Registry values: N2998)
