Description

1853-O Dollar, Pleasing MS64
Elusive in This Grade

1853-O G$1 MS64 NGC. Variety 2. The 1853-O gold dollar, with a mintage approaching 300,000 pieces, can be located through MS62 without too much trouble. This issue is elusive in near-Gem, where NGC and PCGS have certified only about 70 examples. Higher-grade pieces are rare, with only 20 coins seen by both services. The lustrous yellow-gold surfaces of this MS64 offering exhibit sharply struck design features. No significant marks are apparent, nor are areas of mentionable die rust that sometimes occur as a result of the humid New Orleans climate. Overall, this piece yields pleasing eye appeal. Census: 39 in 64 (1 in 64+), 13 finer (5/15).(Registry values: N2998)
