Description

1854-D Gold Dollar, MS62
Tied for the Finest at PCGS

1854-D G$1 MS62 PCGS. Winter 6-H. An above-average strike for this challenging Type One issue, one of just 2,935 pieces issued, with only minor softness visible at the centers. However, both the date and the denomination, while a trifle mushy in places, are clearly legible. Surface marks are generally confined to the area between star 1 and Liberty's chin. Heavy die lines found at the base of the reverse are a product of striking and an assurance of authenticity. Undoubtedly one of the finest surviving representatives of this rare Dahlonega gold dollar. Population: 12 in 62, 0 finer (7/25).
