Description

Low-Mintage 1854-D Gold Dollar in MS 60

1854-D MS 60 NGC. The first of two uncirculated 1854-D gold dollars, one of numerous important offerings from the Miller Collection of Charlotte and Dahlonega Mint gold. Not only is the '54-D rare in the absolute sense and in all grades, it is also a problem-ridden issue with most examples showing numerous mint-made planchet defects. This is an especially pleasing example, with light golden surfaces that are semi-reflective and fairly well struck except for the area of the wreath from the bow to midpoint on the left side. Population: 1 in 60, 9 finer (11/98).
