Description

1854 Type Two Gold Dollar, MS65
Above-Average Strike

1854 G$1 Type Two MS65 PCGS. The 1854 Type Two gold dollar is a common date by most measures. Indeed, it can be located through the near-Gem level of preservation with relatively little difficulty. The Gem population decreases significantly, but this grade level can still be acquired with patience and searching. Examples grading higher than MS65 are elusive.
The lustrous surfaces of the Gem in this lot display peach-gold patina imbued with traces of mint-green. Its design features are better struck than ordinarily seen, including the usually weak obverse portrait and the 85 of the date. A couple of fine linear marks on the cheek appear to be as made. Population: 51 in 65, 12 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079)
