San Francisco Mint Debut

1854-S G$1 MS62 NGC. The San Francisco Mint issued their first coins in 1854, including the production of 14,632 gold dollars. Opened in response to coinage needs on the west coast, the facility produced gold coins in 1854 and added silver coins the following year. This lovely Mint State example is sharply detailed with brilliant wheat-gold luster and minimal, grade-defining marks. Census: 19 in 62, 15 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N2998)
