Only S-Mint Type One Issue

1854-S G$1 MS62 PCGS. During its first year of operation, the San Francisco Mint produced gold dollars, quarter eagles, half eagles, eagles, and double eagles. While the quarter eagles and half eagles are major rarities, the other denominations are plentiful. However, only the gold dollar is obtainable in Mint State. This sharply defined piece, a pleasing yellow specimen with brilliant luster, has a few grade-limiting marks. Population: 14 in 62, 14 finer (9/12).(Registry values: N2998)
