Description

1855-C Gold Dollar, AU58
Winter-1

1855-C G$1 AU58 PCGS. Winter-1. The brief Type Two gold dollar series, struck in 1854, 1855, and 1856, includes examples from all operating Mints at the time. This example represents the sole Charlotte Mint issue of the type and provides an important opportunity for advanced collectors. The second 5 in the date is centered below the A in DOLLAR on this variety, while that digit is right of center below the A on Winter-2. Both sides show significant clash marks. The LL and 8 are typically weak. Gold specialist Doug Winter observes that there might not be a single example of this issue with good eye appeal. This near Mint piece has excellent yellow-gold luster, trivial marks of little consequence, and better than average eye appeal. Population: 7 in 58, 6 finer (7/25).(Registry values: N2998)
