Description

1855-C Type Two Gold Dollar, MS61
First of Two Examples in This Collection

1855-C G$1 MS61 NGC. Variety 2. Attributable by the final date in the digit almost entirely below the right base of the A in DOLLAR, and all digits are well struck; the 8 in Variety 1 is weakly struck. The first of an amazing two Uncirculated examples of this rare, one-year Charlotte issue. This piece is from a later die state than the next coin, as seen by the stronger clash marks and weaker overall detail. On this piece, the surfaces are less smooth as well, the result of an inferior-quality planchet. There is deep, splashy orange-gold color seen on both sides which may appeal to many bidders, but should probably be examined in person. The underlying surfaces lack any significant marks and appear rather lustrous. The depth of the Cherokee County Collection of Charlotte Gold can be seen by the fact that there are two Uncirculated examples of this rare Type Two date.
