    1855-D Gold Dollar, Bright AU53
    Highly Desirable in All Grades

1855-D G$1 AU53 NGC. Variety 7-J. On this variety, the tip of the last 5 in the date points to the right side of the A in DOLLAR, and the topmost portion of the right bow points to the left side of the ball in 5. The 1855-D gold dollar, from a small mintage of 1,811 pieces, ranks as one of the most popular gold dollars. It is very rare, with probably fewer than a hundred coins surviving.

The bright yellow-gold surfaces of this AU53 example display ample luster. While strong definition occurs in the letters of LIBERTY, most of the headdress, the reverse wreath, and the centers are weak, as seen on virtually all survivors regardless of grade. There are no marks worthy of note. This is a highly desirable issue in all grades. Census: 7 in 53, 22 finer (11/13).

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
