Description

1855-D Gold Dollar, AU Details
Only Dahlonega Type Two Issue

1855-D G$1 -- Cleaning -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Variety 7-I. A faintly hairlined and mildly subdued almond-gold example. The forehead curls and cotton leaves show only a trace of wear. The clashed fields are minimally marked aside from minor field marks near 8 o'clock on the reverse. The sole Dahlonega issue of the short-lived Type Two design, which placed the 8 in the date directly opposite the high point of Liberty's portrait. As a result, the 8 is usually lightly brought up, as seen on the present coin. Just 1,811 pieces were struck.(Registry values: N7079)
