    1855-D Gold Dollar, AU Details

1855-D G$1 -- Mount Removed -- NGC Details. AU. Variety 7-I. Type Two gold dollars are much scarcer than the other gold dollar subtypes, and among the Type Two issues, the 1855-D is by far the rarest. The sole Dahlonega issue of the design, limited to 1,811 pieces. On the present piece, the edge and rim are discolored and damaged at 11:30 on the obverse and opposite at 5 o'clock on the reverse. Glossy and hairlined from cleaning, and the rims display file marks. Nonetheless a sharp example of this key Dahlonega date.
