    Description

1855 G$1 Type Two MS62 PCGS. The Type Two gold dollar was introduced in 1854, but the high relief of the portrait led to problems with clashed dies and soft central strikes. The portrait was modified in 1856, creating a two-year type if the tiny 1856-S production is excluded. Uncirculated Type Two gold dollars are scarce, particularly with the smooth and lustrous apricot-gold surfaces of the present coin. The borders display a few specks of aqua residue. Encapsulated in a first generation "rattler" holder.(Registry values: N4719)
