Outnumbered by the Slanting 5 variety by a factor of about 10 to 1, the Upright 5 gold dollar remains underrated despite the obvious scarcity confirmed by its low number of grading events. Bowers suggests merely 130 to 160 examples exist in all Mint State grades. This example is Choice, frosty, and lively with bountiful mint luster. The strike is first-rate.
