Description

1856-S/S G$1 FS-501 AU53 NGC. The 1856-S is the only Type Two San Francisco issue, and has a small mintage of 24,600 pieces. Despite the stingy production, at least three reverse dies were used. In addition to the present repunched mintmark variety, there are normal date pieces with High Date and Low Date variants. This example has original orange-gold surfaces and shows wear on the high points of Liberty. Luster fills the obverse legend.
