1857-C G$1 MS61+ NGC. Variety 1. A satiny and remarkably clean apricot-gold example. Portions of the dentils are softly impressed, but the overall strike is sharp by Charlotte standards. A lamination below the mintmark is of mint origin. Struck from slightly rotated dies. The 1857-C gold dollar has a meager mintage of 13,280 pieces, and is typically encountered in XF to AU grades. NGC has certified only a baker's dozen as Mint State. Census: 7 in 61 (1 in 61+), 4 finer (10/19).(Registry values: N4719)
