Description

1857-C Gold Dollar, MS62
One of the Three Finest Known

1857-C G$1 MS62 NGC. Variety 1. The only known die pair for the 1857-C gold dollar was used to coin 13,280 pieces. The 1857-C is the first Type Three Charlotte issue. This is a difficult date in all grades and extremely rare in Mint State. The present MS62 example is one of the three finest seen by either NGC or PCGS. Both sides display considerable yellow-gold luster and an above-average strike on the design elements, though portions of Liberty's hair are soft. A couple of planchet defects are noted on each side, a usual characteristic of this issue.(Registry values: N7079)
