Description

1857-S Gold Dollar, MS61
Only Six Finer at NGC

1857-S G$1 MS61 NGC. A complete collection of San Francisco Mint gold dollars is a fun little challenge that includes just seven coins with a total combined mintage of just 90,000 coins and a small surviving population. In 1857, the California coinage factory struck a mere 10,000 gold dollars. While NGC has certified 119 submissions in all grades, just 17 of those are in Mint State grades. This example is sharply struck with trivial marks on its lustrous straw-gold surfaces. Census: 10 in 61, 6 finer (10/24).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25CG, PCGS# 7547, Greysheet# 8078)

Weight: 1.67 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
