Description

1857-S Gold Dollar, MS61
Only Six Finer at NGC

1857-S G$1 MS61 NGC. A complete collection of San Francisco Mint gold dollars is a fun specialized challenge that includes just seven gold dollars with a total combined mintage of just 90,000 coins and a small surviving population. In 1857, the California coinage factory struck a mere 10,000 gold dollars. While NGC has certified 122 submissions in all grades, just 17 of those are in Mint State grades, and only six are numerically finer than this piece (10/25). This example is sharply struck with trivial marks on its lustrous, straw-gold surfaces. NGC Census: 10 in 61, 6 finer (10/25).(Registry values: N4719)
