Few Survive in This High Grade

1858 G$1 MS65 PCGS. The 85 in the date is the only point of softness on this otherwise needle-sharp Gem gold dollar. Orange-gold surfaces radiate soft mint frost from each side, and nothing more than a few minuscule ticks are noted. The 1858 gold dollar had a substantial mintage of 117,995 coins, but remarkably few survive in this high grade. Population: 8 in 65 (1 in 65+), 10 finer (1/20).(Registry values: N2998)
