Elusive S-Mint Issue
1858-S G$1 MS61 PCGS. 1858-S gold dollars are scarce in all
grades, as the limited mintage of 10,000 pieces might suggest. Rich
orange-gold patina adheres to partially prooflike fields on this
MS61 example, and most of the design elements have benefited from a
sharp strike. Wispy handling marks visible under magnification
define the grade. Population: 4 in 61, 11 finer (7/24).Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2007), lot 3147.(Registry values: N4719)
