Tied for Finest at NGC
1858-S G$1 MS62 NGC. An entire collection of S-mint gold
dollars needs only seven coins. The San Francisco Mint produced
limited quantities of this denomination, almost all prior to the
Civil War. In 1858, 10,000 pieces were struck. This MS62 coin is
tied with two others as the finest at NGC. That service reports
just 101 grading events for this date in all grades combined
(2/19). Softly frosted surfaces have deep original orange-gold
color and sharply struck design elements. No significant abrasions
