Description

1858-S Gold Dollar, Sharply Struck MS62

1858-S G$1 MS62 PCGS. As the 10,000-piece mintage might suggest, the 1858-S gold dollar is difficult to acquire in all grades. In Mint State, the date is a major rarity. The yellow-gold surfaces of this MS62 example display hints of rose on the reverse, and each side shows moderate contrast between the fields and devices. The design elements are sharply struck, characteristic of the issue. Both sides are nicely preserved. We mention a small mark in the field under Liberty's chin solely for identification purposes. Population: 2 in 62, 3 finer (4/15).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25CK, PCGS# 7550, Greysheet# 8080)

Weight: 1.67 grams
