Description

Near-Mint 1859-D Gold Dollar
Low Mintage, Late-Date Issue

1859-D G$1 AU58 PCGS. Variety 11-N. In the context of the series, the 1859-D gold dollar is an available date, much easier to locate than its mintage of 4,952 pieces would indicate. An estimated 150-175 examples survive in all grades, with an AU population of 48-60 specimens. The present coin is well struck, with a little softness on the date and denomination, but strong peripheral detail. The surfaces are an attractive greenish-gold, with hints of orange. Population: 22 in 58, 23 finer (2/10).
