Description

1859-D Gold Dollar, AU58
Low Mintage With Availability

1859-D G$1 AU58 PCGS. Winter 11-N. In the context of the Dahlonega series, the 1859-D gold dollar is an available date, easier to locate than its mintage of 4,952 pieces would indicate. An estimated 250-300 examples survive in all grades, with an AU population of 55-75 specimens (5/25). However, attractive pieces are often elusive. The present coin is well struck, with a little softness on the date and denomination, but strong peripheral detail. The surfaces are an attractive greenish-gold, with hints of orange. Population: 34 in 58, 33 finer (4/25).
