1859-D Gold Dollar, MS61
Boldly Struck, Rare in Mint State

1859-D G$1 MS61 PCGS. Variety 11-N. The date is positioned slightly farther left than on Variety 11-O, although the large D mintmark position is nearly identical. This variety is more frequently seen well-struck than the other, as the present coin displays with its bold central devices and border dentils. Both sides are die clashed, and the reverse has a radial die crack through the upper right wreath branch at about 1:30. Honey-gold luster is satiny and shows no major abrasions. This Dahlonega issue is rare in Mint State, and only 4,952 pieces were struck. Population: 11 in 61, 19 finer (3/18).(Registry values: N4719)
