Collectible Mint State 1859-D Gold Dollar
1859-D G$1 MS62 PCGS. Variety 11-N, the 9 in the date is centered below the left edge of the A in DOLLAR. Extremely vibrant with lovely yellow-gold color on both sides, the strike is very well executed both at the borders and through the centers. Other than some mint-made clashmarks, the surfaces are clean with just a few minor scuffs visible in the obverse fields. The reverse is slightly finer in grade. The 1859-D is the most common Type Three Dahlonega Gold Dollar in Mint State. There are around 15 pieces known, with most of these in the MS60 to MS61 range. Any 1859-D in MS 62 that is original and properly graded is very rare and an MS63 is considered very rare. Population: 14 in 62, 6 finer (2/05).(#7553) (Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25CN, PCGS# 7553, GSID# 8082)
