    Description

    1859-S Gold Dollar, MS61
    Condition Rarity in Mint State

1859-S G$1 MS61 NGC. The 1859-S is one of the premier condition rarities in the gold dollar series though it is under-appreciated as such. With a mintage of only 15,000 pieces, survivors are relatively scarce in all grades, but they are exceedingly difficult in AU and Mint State grades. This MS61 example displays honey-gold color overall, with hints of peach and green also appearing. The degree of design detail is pleasing and there are no marks worthy of mention. Census: 9 in 61, 1 finer (10/13).(Registry values: N4719)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25CP, PCGS# 7554)

    Weight: 1.67 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
