    Description

    1860-D Gold Dollar, AU50
    CAC Gold Label

1860-D G$1 AU50 PCGS. Gold CAC. Variety 12-P. Beautiful orange-gold surfaces on this gold dollar emanate powerful luster and show great eye appeal. A few small scrapes are undistracting, and some cloudy areas on the old green-label PCGS slab will show in the photo. The strike is nicely brought up on the reverse of this piece, which CAC clearly thinks is undergraded, as indicated by its award of the coveted gold label. The obverse shows notable weakness on UN(ITED), a trait that is nearly universal on the issue. The Dahlonega Mint struck only 1,566 examples of this date, but quite a few were hoarded on the eve of the Civil War.(Registry values: N4719)
