Description

1860-S Gold Dollar, MS64
Rare in Mint State

1860-S G$1 MS64 PCGS. The 1860-S gold dollar, from a small mintage of 13,000 pieces, has a low survival rate. Having been put into circulation soon after production, the vast majority of survivors are in circulated grades. Consequently, relatively few Mint State pieces, estimated to be in the 35 to 45 range, exist today. Intense luster radiates from both sides of this near-Gem example, each of which displays apricot-gold color blushed with whispers of mint-green. A solid strike delivers strong definition to the design elements, and the few minute marks seen do not detract from the coin's nice overall eye appeal. Population: 3 in 64, 1 finer (11/12).(Registry values: N4719)
