Description

1862 Gold Dollar, MS62 Prooflike
Excellent Field-to-Device Contrast

1862 G$1 MS62 Prooflike PCGS. CAC. A quick glance would easily lead the observer to conclude that this is a proof strike. However, close examination reveals the tell-tale signs of a circulation strike example. Field striae on the obverse is reminiscent of a proof strike, and the excellent contrast between the fields and the devices also resembles proof examples. Minor clash marks are typical of circulation strikes. This example was struck from fresh dies that show no evidence of lapping. Both sides display rich yellow-gold luster. Population: 1 in 62 Prooflike, 1 finer. CAC: 1 in 62, 0 finer (3/25).
