Description

1864 Gold Dollar, MS61
Low-Mintage Issue

1864 G$1 MS61 NGC. Following the suspension of specie payments at the onset of the Civil War, gold dollar production plummeted after the 1862 issue and didn't recover fully for 10 years. Just 5,900 circulation pieces were struck in Philadelphia in 1864. This rich yellow-gold example offers good definition on the headdress, wreath, date, and denomination. Muted luster and small marks determine the grade.(Registry values: N1793)
