1865 G$1 MS62 NGC. The Philadelphia Mint struck a limited quantity of just 3,725 gold dollars in 1865 as the public continued to hoard gold and silver coins at the end of the Civil War. The resulting coin shortage was challenging for commerce at the time. This lustrous Mint State example has brilliant yellow surfaces with delicate orange overtones. The design motifs are nicely detailed. Census: 5 in 62, 12 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N2998)
