1867 Gold Dollar, MS67
Stunning Condition Census Rarity

1867 G$1 MS67 PCGS. The 1867 gold dollar, from a mintage of 5,200 circulation strikes, is rare in any condition. Mintages of all the smaller gold coins of this year were small; so soon after the end of the Civil War, parity between gold, silver, and paper currency had not been achieved, and any gold (or silver) coins that appeared in circulation would be immediately hoarded, exported, or melted, for the most part. The current Superb Gem offering is among the finest pieces certified at PCGS (11/24). Semiprooflike fields highlight the frosty, sharply struck devices, and the surface preservation is impeccable. Visible die clashing appears on each side, and the reverse is rotated about 15 degrees counterclockwise.
