Description

Finest Certified 1867 Gold Dollar, MS68 ★

1867 G$1 MS68 ★ NGC. Only 5,200 gold dollars were minted in 1867 during the early years of the post-Civil War Reconstruction era. Precious metals were scarcely seen at the time with large scale hoarding of gold and silver. Even copper was hoarded at the time.
The low mintage means that most of those struck had prooflike surfaces as does this piece. Both sides of this amazing Superb Gem have mirrored fields around lustrous devices. The fields exhibit heavy clash marks on both sides. This piece is the only MS68 certified by NGC or PCGS, and it received the additional NGC designation. Census: 1 in 68 , 0 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N1)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25D3, PCGS# 7566, Greysheet# 8029)
