Description

1870 Gold Dollar, MS65
Only 6,300 Pieces Minted

1870 G$1 MS65 PCGS. Mint State 1870 gold dollars were seldom saved from the mintage of 6,300 pieces, although a few prooflike circulation strikes were well-preserved in lieu of the preferred proofs that were issued in small quantities. This Gem survivor shows a combination of prooflike surface and mint frost to confirm the business strike designation. Raised die polish lines are visible with a glass across the reverse. Only two or three light marks exist on the obverse, with one faint hair-thin abrasion across Liberty's chin. Population: 10 in 65, 14 finer (9/16).(Registry values: N2998)
