Description

Low-Mintage 1870 Gold Dollar
Magnificent Superb Gem

1870 G$1 MS67 PCGS. This postwar issue has a business strike mintage of only 6,300 pieces and comes near the end of a decade-long lull in production of the denomination between the seven-figure output of 1862 and the six-figure revival of 1873. A handful of exceptional survivors are known, this Superb Gem among them. The all-around detail is strong for the type, while the swirling apricot-gold luster has an occasional frosted quality. Both sides are impressively smooth, and the viewer should not be deceived by apparent scuffs that are present on the plastic holder and not the coin itself. Population: 8 in 67 (1 in 67+), 1 finer (1/13).(Registry values: N4719)
