Description

1870-S Gold Dollar, MS63
Historic San Francisco Issue, CAC

1870-S G$1 MS63 PCGS. CAC. Popular as the only mintmarked gold dollar issued after 1861, the 1870-S had a low 3,000-piece mintage and perhaps as few as 35 to 50 pieces survive in any Mint State grade. Only a dozen or so coins are thought to grade MS63 or finer. This highly lustrous Select Uncirculated example with CAC endorsement displays reflective wheat-gold fields and a needle-sharp strike. A few tiny marks and faint abrasions require a strong loupe to discern. PCGS Population: 7 in 63, 15 finer. CAC: 4 in 63, 6 finer (10/25).(Registry values: N2998)
