Description

1871 Gold Dollar, MS64 Prooflike
Only 3,900 Pieces Struck

1871 G$1 MS64 Prooflike NGC. CAC. Most gold dollar issues after 1862 have low productions, and the 1871 is no exception. Just 3,900 pieces were struck for commerce, along with 30 proofs. The 1871 is very scarce in Mint State relative to certain later issues, such as the 1874. A minor of Uncirculated examples, such as the present lot, resemble cameo proofs. The lemon-gold fields are reflective, and the motifs are radiant. A small wedge-shaped flan flaw on Liberty's neck provides an identifier. Census: 5 in 64 Prooflike, 2 finer (10/23).
