sole finest 1872 gold dollar at PCGS and the plate coin for that
service's CoinFacts online reference. In its last public
appearance, the cataloger described it as follows: "A Superb Gem
with intense luster and exceptional eye appeal. The rich
orange-gold surfaces are alive with deep orange iridescence, and
the partially reflective fields support boldly struck and nicely
frosted devices." The coin remains unchanged since that 2015
description was penned. From a mintage of 3,500 circulation
