Description

Appealing 1873 Closed 3 Gold Dollar, MS62

1873 G$1 Closed 3 MS62 NGC. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth, in their gold coins encyclopedia reference, write: "The 1873 Close 3 is a very scarce coin in all grades and is, in fact, one of the rarest Type 3 gold dollars." This yellow-gold MS62 example yields prooflike fields that establish marked contrast with the design elements. Indeed, a gold-on-black appearance is evident when the piece is observed from a direct angle. Well struck, save for the usual softness in LIBERTY. Great overall appeal for the grade designation, despite some minor handling marks.(Registry values: N2998)
