Scarce Closed 3 Variant
1873 G$1 Closed 3 MS64 NGC. The Closed 3 variety is
significantly scarcer than its Open 3 counterpart, and this
near-Gem example is conditionally rare. Sharply struck devices
complement satiny sun-gold mint luster, while only trivial signs of
surface contact prevent a finer grade. Finer Closed 3 gold dollars
are incredibly rare and difficult to acquire. Census: 9 in 64, 4
