Superb Quality 1874 Gold Dollar
1874 MS 67 PCGS. The 1874 is one of the issues that is more available in high grades from the decade of the 1870s. It is also the issue that is well known to specialists as having varying amounts of the letters of LIBERTY obliterated. Apparently foreign matter clogged the die and on this piece the L is the only letter that plainly shows. Otherwise, the coin has the most intense, frosted mint luster imaginable. Rich reddish patina covers both sides and is most attractive, and the piece is virtually perfect from the standpoint of abrasions. Population: 5 in 67, none are finer (11/96).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25DC, PCGS# 7575, GSID# 8037)
