    1875 Gold Dollar, MS64+ ★
'Trophy Coin' in the Type Three Series

1875 G$1 MS64+ ★ NGC. CAC. The meager mintage of most 1875-dated gold coinage, save for the high-production double eagle, is well-known, 400 circulation strikes in the case of the gold dollar with a complement of 50-60 proofs. Many examples were saved, however, and perhaps 50 to 80 survive today. All of the examples known are struck from prooflike dies, an expected result with so few made. The present piece is graded MS64+ with the added Star designation for exceptional eye appeal. The mellow orange-gold surfaces are equally high-end in terms of strike, preservation, and the exquisite surfaces featuring delicate orange-gold color. At NGC, only one MS66 non-Prooflike and one MS65 Prooflike are numerically finer (2/13). A coin for the trophy case.
