Key Date 1877 Gold Dollar
1877 MS 63 Reverse Lightly Cleaned. A famous date in U.S. coinage that carries over from the Indian cent and proof-only nickel issues. Just 3,900 business strikes were produced and, like virtually all survivors, the fields display watery prooflike qualities. The obverse is dazzling and prooflike, but the reverse has suffered from the cleaning and is dull as a result. Unlike other low-mintage gold dollar issues from the following decade, the 1877 does not appear to have been extensively hoarded and is not often available in any grade.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25DF, PCGS# 7578, GSID# 8040)
