Description

1881 Gold Dollar, MS68+
Overwhelming Visual Appeal

1881 G$1 MS68+ NGC. CAC. The 1881 gold dollar boasts a fairly low mintage of 7,620 pieces, a fact that has always boosted demand for the issue. The 1881 was apparently hoarded at the time of issue, and high-grade examples are not too difficult to locate. As Q. David Bowers relates in his series reference, "The typical Mint State 1881 gold dollar is apt to be a visual treat." That said, high-end MS68 pieces are still rare in today's market.
The present coin is an example of surpassing quality, a stunning MS68+ specimen with razor-sharp details on all design elements. The lovely greenish-gold surfaces are brightly lustrous with areas of prooflike reflectivity. This coin possesses terrific visual appeal. Census: 1 in 68+, 3 finer (5/11).(Registry values: N4719)
