1881 Gold Dollar, MS68+
Stunning High-End CAC Type Coin

1881 G$1 MS68+ PCGS. CAC. A beautifully struck, luminous Type Three gold dollar, exhibiting shimmering fields and absolutely pristine surfaces overall. Rich orange-gold, rose, and peach-yellow hues adorn each side. The devices are sharp as well. The 1881 gold dollar is scarce in MS68, and Plus-graded pieces at this level are notably rare. CAC has stickered only two dozen pieces in MS68 overall and none finer. PCGS and NGC combined report four numerically higher-grade pieces which are not CAC endorsed (6/22). As a type coin, this piece is nearly impossible to surpass. Population: 50 in 68 (6 in 68+), 1 finer. CAC: 24 in 68, 0 finer (6/22).(Registry values: N4719)
